another reason i love summer
festivals!
what can i say? i love them. in the last couple of weeks i've been to the adams morgan day festival, the arts on foot festival in penn quarter (mmm, yummy food), the H Street corridor street festival (mmm, bellydancers), fiesta dc parade conveniently held on mount pleasant street, and finally the annual crafty bastards fair (mmm, bboys).
the crafty bastards fair, for some, is the bboy battle with some crafts on the side. every year there are more bboys entered into the contest, and every year the crowd is way larger. i could not believe how many people were there this year.
fiesta dc was also off the hook. batala washington started the parade. i had seen these women the day before. walking down the street in their uniforms with their drums. they looked so tough and so hot, i almost chased them down to say "me too! me too! teach me!". they rocked the parade. i looked at gianma in giddy excitement and he looked at me and said "god...damn!". after the parade i found one of the members of batala dc because i knew i had to join this brigade. she was super friendly and before i could ask, she said "you can join us if you want". my heart did a little snoopy dance. "rehearsals are saturday mornings from 10am - 1pm". oh no. that's when i teach. oh well. in another life.
